Symposium Objectives:


The purpose of the symposium is to educate participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the evolving standards of care and expectations for the "ATC/Team Physician" relationship.  

  2. Describe how athletic trainers, team physicians, school administrators, district administrators, and the AIA can work together to balance various interests of liability and student athlete health and safety.

  3. Utilize updated algorithms, based on scientific principles of spinal column and cord injury, as the evidence to support selective spinal motion restriction by prehospital providers.

  4. Describe a systematic approach to the evaluation process of low back pain in athletes which leads to a more effective treatment protocol.

  5. Discuss a nutrition regimen for the average adolescent or young adult athlete when preparing for a competition, consumption during competition and recovery in regards to maximizing performance.

  6. Evaluate the pros and cons of using sensor-laden mouth guards in football players to improve athletic health care with head injuries.

  7. Discuss the current recommendations for cardiovascular screening based on the scientific literature, red flags on the PPE form, and the pros and cons of performing mass participation physical.

  8. Describe best practices for return to play decisions following ACL injury.

  9. Evaluate the evidence presented supporting the use of Blood flow restriction therapy as an effective means to maintaining quadriceps strength and mass in individuals recovering post-operative and acute knee injuries.

  10. Describe best practices for the provision of athletic training services in a community outreach model; including compensation, liability, and operating procedures.

 



The AzATA is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers.  A total of 10.0 Category A CEUs and 2.0 EBP Cateogry CEUs will be provided for those attending the entire duration of the meeting.  According to the education levels described by the PDC Committee of the NATA, the following continuing education course is considered to be Essential Level.

  • A 100% refund will be given with a written request to Natasha Anderson (treasurer@azata.net) before January 15, 2017, after this date, no refunds will be given.
  • Membership will be verified online using the latest NATA/AzATA records.  Individuals whose membership lapses prior to the start of the Winter Symposium will receive an invoice at the time of check-in in the amount of the difference between member and non-member registration for the category and day/days for which he/she registered.
  • A fee of $10.00 will be assessed for any returned check.
  • Recommended meeting attire is professional dress.

HOSA Regional Sports Medicine Conference

Saturday January 28th

This year the high school student aid session is being conducted in partnership with HOSA. HOSA members are eligible to participate in the sports medicine competition.

1:30-4:00             Skills Competition.  There will be speakers also during this time.

Students competing in the HOSA Sports Medicine Competition will be given a report time to compete
  • If you are a HOSA member and wish to participate in the sports medicine competition, you MUST register at the “Events Page” located on the HOSA website (www.azhosa.org) and meet HOSA criteria for competition. The HOSA competition includes an additional fee for competition participation and for an attendance certificate. Registration includes educational programming, and the sports medicine competition.
  • If you are not a HOSA member or do not wish to participate in the sports medicine competition, you may register directly through the AzATA by using the “Register Now!” links on this page and selecting the High School Student category.  
  • This year we will have speakers from GCU and NAU  with some hands on activities.
